Gender Equity, Disability and Social Inclusion and Human Rights-Based Approaches in Nature-based Solutions for Climate Adaptation
This resource is a compilation of guidance notes
that provide practical considerations for gender
equity, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) from a Nature-based Solutions (NbS) perspective for Kiwa Initiative new regional projects from 2025-2026. The Kiwa Initiative prioritises Human Rights, including GEDSI, as essential to achieve project impacts and sustainable NbS in project environmental and social management plans and systems.

A collection of case studies based on Kiwa Initiative projects
In the Pacific Islands region, where the well-being of communities is deeply intertwined with their natural environment, integrating gender equity, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) into Nature-based Solutions is essential but often remains challenging for practitioners. By documenting and analysing how GEDSI principles are being applied in practice within the Pacific context, this compilation of case studies offers contextually relevant and culturally appropriate approaches and strategies that resonate with the unique realities of Pacific communities and can provide valuable insights directly applicable to the region.

A report presenting key lessons learned from this collective learning process
The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the types of investment and modes of delivery used to promote knowledge and strengthen capacity in integrating GEDSI and broader human rights and right-based approaches in NbS for climate adaptation in PICTs. The report summarises the work undertaken, main outcomes and lessons learned under each of the six types of investment made, and key recommendations to further these efforts.
