Youth Biodiversity management and Conservation projet will cover the four main island group of Tonga.

The Moungalafa project site is located in the Vava’u group work will focus on conservation of bird species, insect and plant. Environmental issues address are the diminishing population of birds species, invasive plant species in the wetland area, endangered water retaining plant species and deforestration. The Ano Hehea Project site is located in the Ha’apai Island. This site serve as a water source for the villages in time of drought and water shortage, rehabilitation work will focus on clearing of invasive plant species and replanting primary vegetatives species in the area and putting up of tempoarily natural measurement for cleaning of stagnant water. The Lokupo Forest site is located in the Eua island work will focus on conservation of endangers bird species, replanting of primary forest and setting up of a green and responsible tourism packages whereby communities can earn incomes. The Sopu reef conservation site is located in Tongatapu the main island. Activities include rehabilitation to the reef with corals and sea kelps and other marine species in the area, as well as coastal replanting of mangrove and other coastal plant as a preventative measure for sea level rising and soil erosion.

Youth Biodiversity management and conservation project is a community based approach that focus on rehabilitation and conservation. The community youth group will form a Park Ranger Unit to manage, asses, rehabilitate, monitor and safeguard the conservation area. Training program will be done to the Ranger Unit on technical data collection, classification and documenting of biodiversity, cleaning of invasive species and rehabilitation work for the site. The Park Ranger Unit will then manage the conservation and rehabilitation work in the project site. A volunteer program will be establish in each site where student will come and joint the ranger unit to document the biodiversity in the area, classify, name, label and documented. Booklet, manual and information on bird species, insects, wild animal in the area will be bublished a breeding and nesting program will run in each Project site will. All the information and booklet, brochure will be available for the wider buplic and for learning and research for schools student and research scholar. 

Project objectives?

• To implement a minimum of 10 preventative measures of poaching in each area that by the end of the project, poaching at each project site has decreased by at least 20%.
• To implement a minimum of 3 effective resource conservative management strategy per project site.
• To implement and management of 5 species specific conservation activities at each project area targeting the most vulnerable species identified by the baseline survey.
