The Kiwa Initiative: contributing to the issues raised at COP26

During the COP26 which took place in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12 2021, the British Presidency, announced the 5 pillars of change that countries should work on.
- Building resilience across society
- Effective risk management
- Transforming finance
- Catalyzing locally-led action
- Harnessing the power of nature
The Kiwa Initiative's objective, from its conception, is focused on these strong axes in order to provide concrete answers to these challenges for the Pacific countries and territories.
The Kiwa Initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of communities, their economies and their ecosystems to climate change through Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
It is based on simplified access to climate change adaptation finance and NBS for local and national authorities, civil society and regional organizations in Pacific islands countries and territories, including the three French Overseas Territories.
The Initiative relies on a unique governance where three representatives of the Pacific Island Countries and Territories (Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia) alongside the donors, give their opinion on the regional projects during the meetings of the Steering committee.
The Kiwa Initiative supports (local, national and regional) beneficiaries with:
- A simplified access to climate adaptation funds by promoting Nature-based Solutions
- A technical assistance for the design and of their projects.
