Signature of three financing agreements between AFD and SPC, SPREP and IUCN - November, 18th 2020 - Pacific

Last November 18th 2020, on the sidelines of the 50th session of the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administrations (CRGA) of the Pacific Community (SPC) was held in Noumea and virtually, the signing of three financing agreements between the French Development Agency (AFD),and SPC, the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
SPC and SPREP are the main scientific and technical intergovernmental organizations in the region, and are joining the Kiwa Initiative to support the potential beneficiaries of the Initiative in setting up regional projects and building the capacity of their member countries and territories in the field of Nature-based Solutions and climate change adaptation.
Regional projects are those that receive between €1.5 million and €5 million in grants and involve at least two of the 19 eligible Pacific countries or territories.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) office based in Fiji will manage the local call for projects.
The mission of IUCN is to work at the local level with the piloting of local calls for projects aimed at supporting very small, small and medium projects (25,000 to 400,000 euros) led by civil society, national and local authorities.
This is another crucial step in the Kiwa Initiative's history.
