Young ocean guardians are rising in Kosrae

Kosrae Conservation and Safety Organization (KCSO), in collaboration with our partners Kosrae Island Resource Management Authority(KIRMA) and the Division of Fisheries and Marine Resource(DFMR), successfully completed the second round of our quarterly school outreach visits to all six public elementary schools across Kosrae.
This awareness program focused on educating 7th grade students about herbivore fish and their vital role in maintaining healthy coral reef ecosystems and protecting our marine environment. The presentations covered:
- What herbivore fish are
- Their important ecological functions
- Examples of herbivore fish found in Kosrae
- Areas where they can commonly be found
- Threats impacting herbivore fish populations
- Actions we can all take to help protect our environment and marine resources
Students actively participated throughout the sessions and greatly enjoyed the interactive question-and-answer discussions that followed each presentation.
Despite power outages experienced at some schools during our visits, the outreach activities continued successfully using laptops to ensure the presentations were completed as planned.
KCSO extends its sincere appreciation to all participating elementary schools, 7th grade students, our partners, and everyone who contributed to the success of this important environmental awareness initiative. Through education and community engagement, we continue working together to inspire the next generation to value and protect our resources.
