PEBACC +: Scaling-up ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

In Vuna, at the southern tip of Taveuni (Fiji), fourteen young men known as the Kevin Young Farmers Alumni (KYFA) are turning their agricultural knowledge into concrete action. Organized as a cooperative, they cultivate dalo, yaqona, cassava, bananas, and more.
With support from the Kiwa PEBACC+ project, the young farmers are now transitioning to organic farming to protect their soil and future generations.
“It’s about protecting the land for the long term,” explains Filimone Sorowaqaliu, a member of the group. “When we use chemicals, the soil becomes less fertile after one harvest. With organic farming, we can continue planting year after year. It’s also healthier for our families.”
