Training strengthens communities’ resilience to climate change

Throughout the initial phases, C3 Fiji facilitated educational workshops focusing on effective LMMA management and the active engagement of community members in the planning process. In line with their commitment to inclusion, at least half of the participants were women. In addition, in collaboration with the communities involved, physical infrastructure was installed for LMMA monitoring, with signage, clear boundaries, monitoring systems and control systems for effective management of these ecosystems.
In addition, the project focused on training community members in mangrove restoration methods. At least 60 members were trained in mangrove restoration techniques, and mangrove areas were extended through the planting of propagules and nursery-grown saplings (at least 20,000 per site over 2 ha). The success of the restoration was monitored on a monthly basis, and appropriate measures were taken to deal with any emerging difficulties.
