Timor-Leste: Kiwa-supported Permatil Project Successfully Completed

After 18 months of implementation, the Permatil Project, funded by the Kiwa Initiative, celebrated its closing in May 2025 in the municipalities of Aileu and Baucau, Timor-Leste.
This permaculture-based project aimed to strengthen food systems and build climate resilience within local communities. Key activities included:
- water conservation,
- the integration of horticulture and agroforestry,
- school garden initiatives,
- and youth skill-building through the Permayouth Camp.
To mark the project’s completion, two community sharing sessions were held — on 13 May in Aileu and 15 May in Baucau. These events provided opportunities to present the project’s achievements, reflect on challenges, and showcase concrete results through site visits.
Participants included representatives from local administrations, schools, village leaders, and community members. Enthusiasm was high, with direct beneficiaries sharing their experiences and results, while others expressed strong interest in replicating similar activities in their own villages.
These closing events highlighted the project’s positive impact and demonstrated the potential for scaling up permaculture principles to build sustainable and climate-resilient communities across Timor-Leste.
