Timor-Leste gives fresh momentum to the RESTORE project with its national launch workshop
Follow-up to the project:
RESTORE: Restoring ecosystems for sustainable, transformative, and resilient communities

On 21 May 2025, a national inception workshop was held in Dili, bringing together government officials, development partners, civil society organisations, and local communities. This key milestone signals the growing momentum of the RESTORE project in Timor-Leste, reaffirming a shared commitment to enhancing coastal resilience to climate change.
The event anchored RESTORE within national adaptation and ecosystem restoration priorities, while placing strong emphasis on community needs and traditional knowledge.
Notable achievements in Timor-Leste so far include:
- The assessment of 120 hectares of degraded mangroves across four coastal villages,
- Financial literacy training and livelihood needs assessments,
- Local-language radio campaigns promoting climate adaptation (co-funded through the Manaaki project supported by MFAT).
“Today, we gather not in despair, but in action. RESTORE represents our shared commitment to reversing degradation, restoring resilience, and building a sustainable future, together.”
This official launch confirms the project’s growing reach in the country and highlights its role as a catalyst for inclusive and nature-based climate solutions in the Pacific.
