The project demonstrates how Nature-based Solutions (NbS) can strengthen the sustainable management of coastal resources and support community adaptation to climate change.
At the heart of MiCOAST lies Community-Based Fisheries Management (CBFM) — a participatory approach where local communities sustainably manage their marine resources, combining traditional knowledge and collective governance. This NbS enhances food security, biodiversity conservation, and climateresilience across Pacific islands.
Alongside the Pacific Community (SPC), the LMMA Network, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the CBFD5 Advisory Group, the discussion highlighted Kiwa’s crucial role in scaling up NbS across the Pacific region.
