Solomon Islands: Kiwa WISH+ strengthens water and sanitation on Kolombangara Island

The Kiwa WISH+ project is continuing its efforts in the Solomon Islands to sustainably improve access to water and sanitation, working closely with local communities on Kolombangara Island in the Western Province.
In partnership with WCS Solomon Islands, RWASH (Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) teams and the Kolombangara Island Biodiversity Conservation Association (KIBCA), WASH assessments were carried out between February and March across several target communities. These activities build on the Water and Sanitation Safety Plans (WSSPs) developed with communities to strengthen the safety and reliability of water and sanitation services.
The assessments helped identify priority needs and practical solutions, including repairing water supply systems, improving sanitation infrastructure, and strengthening the capacity of local WASH committees. The findings will guide the implementation of community-led, practical actions in the coming months.
Beyond improving access to essential services, this work also contributes to strengthening climate resilience. By helping communities anticipate and adapt to risks such as flooding, drought, and water contamination, these interventions support more resilient and sustainable local systems.
This collective effort highlights the strong commitment of partners and communities in Kolombangara to safer, more sustainable, and climate-resilient water and sanitation services.
