PEBACC +: Scaling-up ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

On 11 March 2025, in Savusavu, the second meeting of the National Project Steering Committee (NPSC), chaired by the Department of Climate Change, was held for the regional Kiwa PEBACC+ project in Fiji.
This meeting reaffirmed the commitment of partners to the successful implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in Savusavu and Taveuni. Participants reviewed the project’s progress and achievements in 2024, assessed the 2025 annual work plan, and discussed implementation challenges and the support needed to ensure the project’s impact.
Several key points were discussed, including the need to strengthen land lease conditions and enforce penalties against encroachments into the Taveuni Forest Reserve; the support for Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) actions along the coastlines of Savusavu and Taveuni; and the strengthening of partnerships with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), the Pacific Community (SPC), and Teitei Taveuni to train farmers in sustainable agroforestry practices.
