PEBACC +: Scaling-up ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

As part of the Kiwa PEBACC+ regional project, partners were recently on the ground to draw inspiration from nature and design Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate change adaptation.
Two key sites were visited: Morari Bay and Pointe d'Och with the City of Mont-Dore, and the Sainte-Marie Urban Park with the City of Nouméa.
Observing coastal ecosystems, especially trees with powerful roots capable of stabilising the soil against erosion, fuelled rich discussions among participants.
These moments of sharing saw strong participation from representatives of the Government of New Caledonia, the University of New Caledonia, as well as environmental associations and agencies from the territory.
Soon, citizen-driven restoration activities will be organised on these sites to implement the identified actions and strengthen local climate resilience.
