PEBACC +: Scaling-up ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

From 7 to 13 November 2024, the communities of Barana, in the Solomon Islands, participated in a reforestation training as part of the regional Kiwa PEBACC+ project, implemented by SPREP. This initiative provided community members, rangers, and youth with essential skills to restore the degraded landscapes of Mount Austin.
Through this training, participants learned how to plant the right trees to support biodiversity. They also discovered methods to prevent soil erosion and protect ecosystems.
Additionally, the training helped them better understand the importance of restoring natural habitats for local wildlife. Finally, it contributed to strengthening local knowledge, promoting sustainable forest management.
This approach, based on Nature-Based Solutions, enhances ecosystem resilience to climate change and supports the sustainable development of local communities.
