PEBACC +: Scaling-up ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

On Tanna Island, Vanuatu, communities are working hard to protect and restore their ecosystems. One major challenge remains: ensuring the continuity of environmental projects once donor funding ends.
To address this, the PEBACC+ regional project, implemented by SPREP with the support of the Kiwa Initiative and the French Facility for Global Environment, organiseda three-day practical writeshop in Lenakel (9–11 June 2025).
32 community representatives received hands-on training on drafting concept notes, identifying funding opportunities (such as UNDP’s GEF Small Grants Programme),and planning long-term environmental action.
By strengthening these skills, the Kiwa Initiative is empowering communities to sustain their Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and take ownership of the long-term resilienceof their projects.
