Organic Farmers Restore the Land in Taveuni
Follow-up to the project:
PEBACC +: Scaling-up ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

Across Vanua Levu, farmers are witnessing the serious effects of soil degradation. On the island of Taveuni, farmers are finding a different way forward. At the Mudrenicagi Organic Learning Farm, farmers are relearning what their ancestors once knew: healthy soil is the foundation of healthy food, communities, and ecosystems.
Through hands-on training, eight farmers are exploring practical techniques like composting, agroforestry, and natural pest management. More importantly, they are reconnecting with a mindset that values balance with nature.
As one farmer shared, "Everything is connected, the land, the water, the air."
The training that took place on 2-4 February 2026 is a collaboration between the Pacific Ecosystem-based Adaptation to Climate Change (PEBACC+) project and the Pacific Organic Learning Farm Network (POLFN), both funded by the Kiwa Initiative. The PEBACC+ project is co-funded by the French Facility for Global Environment, and implemented by SPREP, while the POLFN project is implemented by the Pacific-Community-SPC.
Bringing farmers into this shared space allows knowledge to flow both ways between those who focus on building climate resilience and supporting young farmers, and those who focus on strengthening organic farming systems across the Pacific.
