PEBACC +: Scaling-up ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

Representatives of South Province in New Caledonia, the Cities of Nouméa and Mont Dore, the Government and the Gladys Network visited demonstrations sites for the Pacific Ecosystem-based Adaptation to Climate Change Plus #PEBACC+ Project in New Caledonia.
The sites (historically reclaimed) show coastline erosion due to the degradation of coastal ecosystems such as reefs, coastal vegetation, increased extreme weather and sea level rise is caused by climate change, etc. The project is looking at how these affects communities and identifying appropriate intervention options. It is exploring coastal vegetation restoration by reintroducing strong roots coastal tree species combined with temporary and community-accessible infrastructures to respond to this impact.
