The project aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities to the impacts of climate change by relying on simple, local, and natural solutions.
In Navolau Village No.1, located in the province of Rakiraki, the construction of the natural seawall is now 100% complete. In Somosomo, on the island of Taveuni, 80% of the rock revetment wall has been completed.
These structures, built using locally available natural materials and traditional knowledge, help reduce erosion, protect land and homes, and enhance resilience to sea-level rise and storm surges.
This project is part of Fiji’s broader efforts to integrate environmentally sustainable practices into infrastructure development, notably by combining traditional knowledge with scientific expertise.
