RESICO: Biodiversity conservation to strengthen the resilience of rural communities

In mid-November, the Kiwa ResiCo project welcomed three new France Volontaires international solidarity volunteers to Vanuatu. Arriving from New Caledonia, Nadja, Djaïk and Steeves have begun an 18-month mission with local partners focused on strengthening food and agricultural resilience. They were officially welcomed on 26 November at the French Embassy in Vanuatu.
Based in Port Vila, Nadja will work with the Vanuatu Kaljoral Senta to support the documentation of traditional agricultural knowledge in the context of climate change, food practices and their links to health, as well as the role of women in agriculture and householddecision-making.
Also in Port Vila, Djaïk will support the Farm Support Association in establishing nurseries, promoting crop diversification and developingagroforestry systems.
In Santo, Steeves will collaborate with the Vanuatu Agricultural Research and Technical Centre to help set up a post-entry quarantine facility, multiply fruit, nut and root crops, and develop demonstration plots on agroforestry and fallow-land management.
These arrivals mark a new, concrete step in ResiCo’s ongoing work to build more resilient agricultural systems in Vanuatu.
