PEBACC +: Scaling-up ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

As part of the regional Kiwa PEBACC+ project, a public-facing educational poster has been developed in Ouvéa to explain the challenges of coastal protection, coastal reforestation, and the installation of natural barriers. Led locally by the Syndicat Initiative Iaai-Ouvéa, this initiative aims to make nature-based solutions more accessible and to encourage community ownership of climate-resilience actions.
This awareness-raising tool also announces the upcoming on-the-ground activities, scheduled to begin in mid-January in the northern district, and highlights the commitment of local stakeholders, in particular nursery trainees involved in preparing plants for the 2026 reforestation campaigns. Through information, education and citizen mobilisation, the Kiwa PEBACC+ project is helping to strengthen the long-term protection of Ouvéa’s coastline.
