INSPIRE project celebrates the Fatu Iva monarch in French Polynesia

On 26–27 July 2025, the municipality of Fatu Iva (French Polynesia) hosted the latest edition of the ‘Ōmā‘ō Keekee Festival, dedicated to the protection of the Fatu Iva Monarch, a threatened endemic bird species.

Organised by MANU-SOP, BirdLife International and the municipality, with support from the Kiwa Initiative through the INSPIRE project, the event brought together children and adults for two days of activities blending culture, environmental awareness and community action for nature.

• Day 1: children’s activities, games, traditional songs and dances, educational video screenings, and learning sessions about the ‘Ōmā‘ō Keekee.
• Day 2: guided walk along the Monarch trail, presentation of native plants, invasive species control demonstrations, and an art competition.
