Empowering Youth for Environmental Advocacy in Fiji

The Heritage in Young Hands (HIYH) annual meeting, hosted by the National Trust of Fiji, brought together key partners like IUCN Oceania, Kiwa Initiative, WWF Pacific, and others to discuss the programme’s progress and future plans. Launched in 2016, HIYH aims to educate children about environmental conservation, with a focus on projects like coastal resilience at Sigatoka Sand Dunes.
A highlight of the meeting was IUCN's continued support, praised for enhancing communication, funding, and visibility. Shreeya Verma, IUCN Kiwa Initiative Communications Officer, emphasised the power of social media in advocacy, sharing how HIYH eco campers use platforms to amplify their voices and inspire change.
The meeting underscored teamwork, curiosity, and social media as vital tools for young advocates to connect, share, and create meaningful impact. With strong partnerships and enthusiastic Junior Rangers, HIYH is paving the way for a sustainable future.
