PROTECT UA HUKA, Development of the Ua Huka biodiversity protection program

The PROTECT UA HUKA project team met with the Communauté de Communes des Îles Marquises – CODIM, in the presence of the Hakaiki and their elected representatives.
This meeting resulted in the signing of an agreement to launch the first biosecurity measures on board the vessels Kaoha Tini and Te Ata o Hiva, ahead of the Matavaa cultural festival. This long-term initiative aims to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive alien species (IAS) across the archipelago.
During the meeting, the biosecurity protocol and awareness-raising activities planned for the six Marquesan delegations and the general public were presented.
The next step will be to engage with biosecurity services and the Ministry of the Environment to establish closer cooperation in the fight against IAS.
The Manu-SOP Association, which is implementing the INSPIRE project also supported by the Kiwa Initiative, will take part in awareness and IAS control activities during the Matavaa.
