Mitigating the effects of climate change in the Pacific region of Vanuatu
Follow-up to the project:
PEBACC +: Scaling-up ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

As part of adapting urban centers to rising temperatures, reducing harmful pollutants and storing carbon to combat climate change, the #PEBACC+ project is collaborating with Vanuatu's Department of Forestry and Department of Urban Affairs and Planning to plant trees in Port Vila.
Reforestation in Port Vila
“Trees and ornamental plants have been planted along the road from the University of the South Pacific to Korman Stadium with the help of young people from Erakor Bridge. The aim is to add greenery and beauty to our environment. More than 90 students from the Vanuatu Institute of Technology - Skills That Matter helped weed and clean 300 plants along the Tagabe River as part of their course on climate change and disaster risk reduction,” said William Bani, PEBACC+ Vanuatu Coordinator, Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP).
In Vanuatu, there will be planting in the selected sites in Port Vila and restoration along the Tagabe River, one of Efate's main watersheds.
This project PEBACC+ (for Ecosystem-based climate change adaptation in the Pacific Islands) integrates ecosystem-based adaptation into public policies to ensure its sustainability. Two new territories, New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna, will also be able to benefit from the PEBACC approach and activities to be implemented on the ground.
