Launching Phase Two of Kiwa’s #PEBACC+ regional project in Fiji’s Garden Island, Taveuni !
This news is a follow-up to the project:
PEBACC +, Scaling-up Ecosystem-based Adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

The PEBACC+ team, in collaboration with Cakaudrove Provincial Office in Taveuni, recently organised a dynamic three-day inception workshop. The workshop discussed field project actions centered on #NbS, aimed at addressing climate change adaption and biodiversity conservation.
This inclusive discussion welcomed diverse stakeholders, including district traditional leaders, landowners, key community representatives (women’s group and youth groups), informal settlements, leaseholders and farmers.
As part of the inception workshop, participants joined hands to plant 50 native tree seedlings in Navakacoa Village and an impressive 100 mangrove seedlings along the Naselesele coastline, contributing to the protection and restoration of these vital ecosystems.
A National Inception Workshop is on the horizon and will be held in Savusavu on October, 4th, 2023.
What is the purpose of Phase Two in the Kiwa #PEBACC+ project?
- Accelerate EbA interventions, to limit the agricultural expansion into forested areas.
- Sustainably manage coastal erosion through mangrove rehabilitation and reforestation of degraded riparian zones.
- Implement agroforestry practices to improve farming sustainability.
