Kiwa #MiCOAST Regional Project Takes Off in Micronesia
A groundbreaking step towards safeguarding coastal fisheries in Micronesia just took place! The kick-off meeting of the Kiwa Initiative's #MiCOAST Regional Project, held from January 22-26, 2024, in #Pohnpei (Federated States of #Micronesia) and co-hosted by the Conservation Society of Pohnpei and OneReef Worldwide Stewardship, was a hub of dynamic discussions, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among the different stakeholders of this project.
Noteworthy participants included various organizations and agencies from the region, such as the Marshall Islands Conservation Society, Kosrae Conservation and Safety Organization, Rare, cCHANGE, the Nauru Fisheries and Marine Resources Authority, The Pacific Community-SPC, and other national, state, and local government entities, along with traditional representatives.
The event saw the presence of esteemed figures like T.H. Stevenson A. Joseph, Governor of Pohnpei, and H.E. Jo Cowley, Ambassador of Australia to the FSM, alongside influential traditional leaders and representatives from natural resource management, government sectors, and local communities. Their invaluable contributions underscored the significance of collaborative endeavors and the active involvement of #coastal #communities in achieving sustainable coastal #fisheries #management in Micronesia.
