PEBACC +, Scaling-up Ecosystem-based Adaptation to climate change in the Pacific Islands

On October 12th, the #PEBACC+ Country Steering Committee met in Nouméa for the official launch of the project in New Caledonia.
What actions will be carried out in the territory's three provinces?
- Technical and financial support for demonstration activities:
- Protecting the beaches of Baie de St-Joseph in Ouvéa (Loyalty Islands Province).
- Restoration of urban mangroves in Greater Nouméa (South Province).
- Improving fire management in the mining south (North Province).
An analysis of ecosystem resilience and socio-economic impact will be carried out. This #ESRAM ("Ecosystemic & Socioeconomic Resilience Analysis and Mapping") approach will enable the identification of Nature-based Priority Solutions.
Support for local and regional players in integrating valuable #NbS solutions into their strategies and policies for adapting to climate change.
The PEBACC+ Country Steering Committee brings together the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the Gouvernement de la Nouvelle-Calédonie, La Province des Iles Loyauté, Province Nord, Nouvelle Calédonie, the Associations de Maires and the Sénat Coutumier de la Nouvelle-Calédonie. Observer members (AFD, FFEM, Kiwa Initiative Secretariat, DAFE, ADEME/Agency for Ecological Transition, OFB, representatives of beneficiary local communities, etc.) are also involved.
