Pacific Resilience Meeting 2023

The session's central theme was "Community-Driven Nature-based Solutions: Building Resilience and Sustainability”.
Meet Thomas Yalu, Community Engagement Officer with the WCS Solomon Islands program, contributing to the Kiwa regional #WISH+ project. His mission? Implementing Kiwa WISH+ activities on Kolombangara Island, Western Province, Solomon Islands, and engaging with communities to bring project activities to life.
Thomas shared his experience in collaborating with communities to implement watershed interventions and establish upstream areas. These initiatives are rooted in gender-sensitive and participatory planning processes. Moreover, Thomas highlighted the importance of the Free, Prior and Informed Consent #FPIC process. It serves as a crucial step in involving communities in project activities, fostering dialogue, and ensuring local ownership.
In his own words, "The FPIC process helped gather invaluable insights from the community. It's about listening to their ideas, securing their consent, and presenting the project's benefits and activities.”
For Thomas, working with communities to implement #NbS is not just a job – it’s a passion
