International Women’s Day: the Kiwa Initiative promotes more inclusive climate projects across the Pacific

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Kiwa Initiative highlights the importance of strengthening women’s participation in climate change adaptation efforts across the Pacific.
Across many Pacific islands, women play a key role in natural resource management, food security and community resilience in the face of climate impacts. However, their participation in decision-making processes remains limited, particularly in projects related to environment and development.
To help address this challenge, the Kiwa Initiative has developed a practical guide dedicated to the integration of GEDSI principles (Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion). Developed in partnership with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and Talanoa Consulting, the guide aims to support project leaders in effectively integrating social inclusion considerations into Nature-based Solutions. Its objective is to support the development of projects that strengthen the participation of women, youth, people with disabilities and other often marginalised groups, ensuring that the benefits of Nature-based Solutions are shared by all communities.
Through this guide, the Kiwa Initiative reaffirms its commitment to more equitable, inclusive and sustainable climate change adaptation across Pacific island territories.
