15 new projects to strengthen climate resilience across the Pacific

On the occasion of the New Caledonian Climate Change Forum, held on 22 July 2025 in Nouméa and organised by the Government of New Caledonia, the Kiwa Initiative announced the launch of 15 new local projects based on nature-based solutions to strengthen climate resilience in the Pacific region.
These projects were selected from among 166 proposals submitted under the 2023 call for projects, and will be implemented across 10 Pacific Island countries and territories:
- New Caledonia,
- Fiji,
- Kiribati,
- Palau,
- Papua New Guinea,
- French Polynesia,
- Solomon Islands,
- Timor-Leste,
- Vanuatu
- and Wallis & Futuna.
The projects will be supported by IUCN Oceania, the Kiwa Initiative’s technical partner for local project implementation and monitoring.
The selected initiatives reflect a wide range of nature-based adaptation approaches, including community-based fisheries management, the creation of conservation areas, invasive species control, transmission of traditional knowledge, or the development of home gardens to empower women.
"It is a real pleasure that the Kiwa Initiative chose the Caledonian Climate Change Forum to announce these new awardees,"
With a total of 41 projects supported across 17 Pacific Island countries and territories, reaching over 220,580 beneficiaries, the Kiwa Initiative continues to play a leading role in supporting climate adaptation efforts across the region.
